Glassification are delighted to confirm that internationally renowned artist Craig Mitchell Smith will be returning to our studio in September. He will build on the techniques he has previously taught for us AND introduce some exciting new processes he has been developing.
During this three-day class, Craig will share the exciting new techniques he developed in early 2020. Not only will students learn how to make a watertight vessel without the cold working required of a drop–out, they will do so with the addition of texture applied to the piece using their own uniquely created texture mold. His new way of forming glass allows for making shapes many thought never before possible in kiln–formed glass. Craig calls this “Yoga for Glass” as it teaches the glass to warm up, bend and stretch.
Please note that this class is RESTRICTED to students who have already completed Craig’s Poppy class, as you will be building on techniques learned there. When you book onto this class you will be asked to enter the date you attended Craig’s Poppy class. If you haven’t completed a Poppy class yet, please book onto one of our available Poppy courses first and then enter that date when booking.
All materials and drinks are provided. Lunch can be purchased at the fantastic Courtyard Gallery Cafe which is in the same building as the Glassification Studios, there are also some nearby fast food options or Ilminster town has a range of shops and cafes.
Start time on day one will be 10am. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear with closed toes. Attendees are welcome to use the studio tools and facilities, but please bear in mind the tools are regularly used by beginners, so you may wish to bring your own hand tools to achieve the best results.
