Sgraffito Art with Kelly Crosser Alge
September 8 - September 11£400.00 – £775.00
We are delighted that Kelly Crosser Alge, a renowned sgraffito artist is returning to Glassification this year.
Kelly’s stunning work uses powdered glass and some frits to create amazing landscapes, portraits, architecture and cityscapes. Using a variety of tools, and her own unique method of using photographs to transfer images to glass, Kelly is one of the fused glass world’s unsung heroes! Students on her class last year were absolutely astonished at the high quality of work they were able to produce using her techniques. (See photos for the evidence!!)
This class is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, no previous experience is required, but will also offer the experienced glass artist something new.
Over the four days Kelly will teach you how to use coloured glass powders to create nature themed panels, and her sgraffito drawing techniques to create portraits of pets or people, and buildings. She will be teaching you how to plan compositions, using coloured glass effectively, and developing artistic habits that will improve your drawing skills exponentially in a very short amount of time.
In addition to learning simple tricks of the trade and improvised technical drawing skills, you’ll have the freedom and individual encouragement to experiment with ways to to use glass to create your own drawn imagery that evokes emotion and expresses mood, If you think you can’t draw, this class is for YOU! By the time you leave, you will have gained a new awareness of the visual language that is possible with kiln formed glass, as well as confidence in your ability to “see” as an artist.
Kelly is a generous and knowledgeable teacher, and will also cover kiln formed glass murrini, collage part sheets for sgraffito drawing, tool making, colour theory, reactive glasses, volume control, firing schedules and mounting your work.
Even if you attended this course previously, it’s a good one to take again because the skills build as you go. Kelly has many repeat students that come back to get a refresher, or work on more challenging subjects.
Students are invited to bring their own basic tools to the workshop – other materials required are provided.
